Abstract. The data obtained from a production trial conducted on lactating cows in the fresh-calving period indicate high efficiency of increasing the dry matter energy density of the diet by 0.4 MJ/kg (versus 11.0 in the control) when using a fat feed additive containing fatty acids of plant origin in the form of calcium salts (FA-Ca) in an amount of 0.5 kg, which in cows of the experimental group manifested itself in an increase in the amount of milk milked in 4 months (by 8.6%, at P≤0.05) and a higher yield of milk fat (by 7.3%, at P≤0.05) and protein (by 7.5%, P≤0.05), against the background of reduced (by 2.5%) expenditure of metabolic energy for the synthesis of 1 kg of milk with 4% fat content. Biochemical studies showed that the total cholesterol content in the blood of cows receiving FA-Ca increased by 20.3% (Р≤0.05), with a tendency to increase the concentration of NEFA by 12.5% (Р≤0.1), which positively affected the decrease in the ratio of NEFA to cholesterol (0.052), compared to the control (0.055). Optimization of energy nutrition of cows during the milking period with the use of FA-Ca affected the efficiency of milk production and was manifested in a decrease in its cost by 1.8%, with an increase in income by 6866.6 rubles, calculated per 1 head.
