Abstract. This study assessed the effect of a feed additive based on the carotene-containing yeast R. mucilaginosa on the physiological status and key parameters of non-specific resistance in broiler chickens of the Smena 9 cross. Three groups (one control and two experimental) with 26 animals in each were formed. The control group received the basic ration. The first experimental group received the basic ration daily with R. mucilaginosa yeast without freezing at a dose of 3 g / head / day, based on the calculation that the carotenoid content was 312 mcg / g in biomass. The second experimental group received the basic ration daily and R. mucilaginosa yeast after freezing, in the same dosage as the 1st experimental group. The results showed that the introduction of yeast, especially in frozen form, enhanced the parameters of nonspecific immunity. There was a significant increase in the bactericidal and lysozyme activity of blood serum, as well as the phagocytic activity of neutrophils, which is associated with an improvement in the bioavailability of immunoactive components (β-glucans, mannans) after freezing. At the same time, the supplement did not cause negative changes in hematological and biochemical parameters of the blood, which, in turn, remained within the physiological norm. Thus, Rhodotorula mucilaginosa yeast is an effective and safe probiotic supplement that supports the homeostasis of broiler chickens. Pre-heat treatment (freezing and defrosting) contributed to the destruction of the yeast wall and the release of intracellular contents with a complex of carotenoids.
